USS
Parrott DD-218 |

The ship saw much of Asia in the pre-WWII days. TC
Edrington III met and married his wife, Josephine,
in Manila, Philippines while a Ltjg. on this ship. Jo's
parents were US expats running Tidewater Oil in the Orient at the
time.
To the left is
winter in Asia, forecastle and the gun mount
with a sampan in the background. |

The
bullet hole was real, and everyone got a picture pointing it out, though
today we don't know who these officers were.
It is tempting to think the shot came from the plane that is downed next
to the ship, and my memory seems to say that is how that happened, but
then the story was told to me a long time ago and I may have it wrong. |
