17, 1947 - Change of Command ceremony as Captain Edrington
relieves Captain Howard

23, 1947 - Out of the shipyard on conduct post repair trial runs

24, 1947 - Rearm the ship - good view of a standard load of
munitions on a Sumner Class Destroyer

30, 1947 - Finally make it back home and we all go to the San
Diego Zoo

6, 1947 - Refresher Training Pacific Fleet style, it ain't GITMO

11, 1947 - Typical day OPS prior to deployment

26, 1947 - Underway with Task Force 38 (see if you can figure
out how many ships were involved) and extensive at-sea war games
that would last for seven months!

11, 1947 - Search for downed pilot and then enter Pearl Harbor

12, 1947 - Arrive at Guam and go into drydock for inspection of
port shaft & propeller vibrations

17, 1947 - In Guam's Drydock in the morning and Saipan, Marianas
in the afternoon

27, 1947 - A dreadful accident - a lifeline turnbuckle parts and
three of our shipmates fall overboard - MM2 Lymon Overstreet and S1
Phillip G. McClellan are lost

28, 1947 - Memorial services are held in honor of our lost
shipmates
- July
1, 1947 - Enter Sumner's former area of operations - Manila,
Philippine Islands
- July
11, 1947 - Another busy day, Saipan in the morning and Guam in
the afternoon
- August
14, 1947 - Sumner's first visit to one of our favorite ports -
Yokosuka, Japan
- August
29, 1947 - Sumner adds another ribbon with time in Tsingtao,
China (now known as Qingdao)
- September
10, 1947 - Back to Guam one last time
- September
30, 1947 - Almost home, we stop at Pearl one more time. USS
INGRAHAM (DD-694) decides to rearrange our depth charge racks!

8, 1947 - San Diego at last!
- October
14, 1947 - COMDESPAC, Rear Admiral Fahrion comes by for a visit
- November
4, 1947 - Back to the daily OPS routine and wait for Christmas
