Thomas C.
Edrington II served as a supply officer in the "black coal" Navy and was on the
USS Vermont (BB-20) when it was part of the Great White Fleet and also
the USS Illinois (BB-7) when it was in the Caribbean.

When the grandchildren
were growing up we thought that Grandmother Edrington had the nickname,
"Ager" - obviously because she was old. The real nickname was
"Edger" given to her by a native of Briton Bay where summers
were spent. Seems the local fellow gave up on pronouncing Edrington and
the shortened version, complete with accent, stuck, at least in the family.
