Highland Park launches new visitor experiences

Highland Park has launched two brand new visitor experiences at the award-winning whisky’s Albert Street store in the heart of Kirkwall.

With the 226-year-old distillery officially closed until the end of the year for environmental upgrades that will reduce direct carbon emissions by 20%, visitor experiences are now taking place in Highland Park Kirkwall Store to allow us to continue sharing our stories and our Single Malt Scotch Whisky with Orcadians and visitors to our islands home.

Two new bespoke experiences have been created in the store, catering for those that want a quick introduction to Highland Park, and a more in-depth experience for those looking to learn more about the world of our award-winning whisky.

The Peedie Experience, named after the local word for small, is a 45-minute introduction to learn about our whisky, how it is made and what makes it taste so distinctive. We start with a short film of our whisky making process followed by a tasting of two of our core range of whiskies.

The Taste of Orkney Experience is for those who would like to delve a little deeper into the world of Highland Park. Lasting 90 minutes, guests can expect an in-depth exploration of our whisky production, with a short film capturing behind the scenes at our historic distillery. Hosts will take you through each element of the process with sensory prompts along the way.

Highlights of this immersive tour include the influences our oak casks have on our unique flavour, as well as learning about Hobbister Moor, the heather moorland that produces the peat that gives Highland Park its signature sweet and subtle smoky character.

The Taste of Orkney Experience concludes with an expertly guided tasting of a selection of our prestige and limited-edition whiskies.

Paul Condron, Highland Park Brand Director explained that these new experiences appeal to existing Highland Park lovers and to those curious to find out more about the brand and the world of Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Said Paul: “We were determined to continue to provide exceptional Highland Park experiences for Orcadians and visitors to the islands while we carry out significant engineering investments at the distillery to reduce our carbon emissions by 20%.

“We’re delighted with the very positive feedback we’ve had from those who have already taken part in The Peedie and The Taste of Orkney Experiences and are looking forward to welcoming many more guests to our Albert Street store over the course of the 2024 season.”

Both experiences are for over 18s only and are available to book online or at the Highland Park Kirkwall Store. For more information or to book an experience visit www.highlandparkwhisky.com
